Three Ways to Help You Make a Decision About Your Future

"What do you want to be in the future?“
When you encounter this question, can you answer it without hesitation? One of the significant issues, especially in Korea, is that many young people are too confused to make up their minds about their future. I was one of them and had no idea about what I wanted to become. I constantly asked myself what the next step in my life should be. If you are going through the same struggles I went through, I will give you three pieces of advice that made me find my answer : change your environment, achieve a small goal, and follow your heart.
First of all, changing your environment helps broaden your insights. The world is vast, and it can be your stage. This means that the area where you have always lived may not be enough to see the other side. Moving to different places also offers you a special opportunity to meet new people. Spending time with your new friends are able to lead to many unexpected experiences. If they make you happy, try to be kind to them and make awesome memories. If they break your heart, learn your lessons and develop your mental resilience. Whatever you face, try to extract the benefits from your new environment.
On top of that, achieving small and simple goals will change your life slowly, but absolutely. This is because it helps you build confidence and provides motivation for achieving larger goals. For example, I always wanted to speak English fluently. However, that goal seemed too vague to know where to start. Therefore, I set an easy goal that I could accomplish right away. I studied only three English sentences through my phone application before going to bed. Afterward, I used the sentences I had recently learned whenever I talked to my foreign friends. As the number of sentences I learned increased, I had deeper conversations with them. As a result, practicing just three sentences not only improved my English speaking skills but also helped me make close friends.
Finally, follow your heart. When I was deeply pondering my career path, my most respected professor told me to follow my heart. This advice differed from what my parents recommended. My parents suggested their desired dreams to me, but my professor encouraged me to choose the direction of my own life. Ironically, as soon as I listened to my professor's advice, I found my answer. Your answer might already be within you. What about listening to your inner voice?
Changing your environment, achieving a small goals, and following your heart will help you make a decision about your future. Once you make up your mind, go your own way. I cross my fingers for all of you.
